Only have been here a couple times, but I can see myself finding a reason to visit Rolling Meadows more often. Actually on the proper day, traffic isn't bad from Naperville. I love Gus' philosophy to enter as strangers and leave as friends. I often wish we lived in the days of the fifties and things were simple and everyone was friendly. You definitely have that feeling here. I was raised in a small town so I always love diners. You have to try the house speciality, made from scratch banana bread french toast. Covered with pecans and bananas too. Come hungry or just plan on leftovers, as I do. Need to check out their lunch menu. Step inside and feel the magic, you'll crave a return visit and soon be a regular. @dinewithgus #gusdiner

I was almost about to leave this place just because of the service was 'Little' late. But thanks to the guy who got me a water right after I sat and the other one who greeted me even though he was not my server. One senior guy, who came after me, left because no one attended him on time. I think they were short on staff on a busy saturday. There were only 4 people in the dining area. But anyways, after that moment, I had a really good service and food. It seems like all 4 of them were serving everyone. One guy greeted me, the other guy brought water, a woman took my order and coffee and the other lady brought my food! They were all nice and happy people. I had a Diner experience just how I wanted, like how they are all friendly and fun, cool local people hanging out and involving you in the conversation! I liked those locals and all the servers! Atleast three of them came and informed me and kept me updated on why my pancake is late. Excellent food by the way. Service could be a little better. But it is NOT bad. Please check out this place

We walked in and we're not greeted by anyone. We didn't know if we should just take a seat or stand there. We finally asked somebody. Once we say it took 10 minutes to get a menu. Then they asked me and my boyfriend if we wanted something to drink but didn't ask his son We finally placed our order and I can say the pancakes were yummy but the ham and cheese omelet was nothing to write home about. The cinnamon French toast was yummy but too sweet to eat all of it The reason I gave this only 3 stars was the cost. It was $45 for 2 eggs, French toast, omelet, 1 hot tea, 1 cup of coffee and a chocolate milk Could have gone to Ellys or teddys or checkers or uncle bills. Had the same quality food but for much less I don't think we will be returning. The food was good just not good enough for the price
(3)John S.
Always a friendly smile to greet you and a delicious meal to enjoy. Worth your trip and time. Atmosphere is lively, and happy. Great Family restaurant with excellent menu choices. Stop once, you'll return often.

I came here with my son for the first time. My son tried the cinnamon swirl french toast and said it was the best of his life, which in our food e household we call BOML. I felt the same way about my egg white omelet. I don't think I've ever had a better omelette. My son's french toast came with cinnamon pecans sprinkled all over, which looked delicious, but he is not a nut guy. He wasn't going to say anything, but the attentive waitress assured him that it was trying to take them back and try it again. His bacon with cooked to perfection, the hash browns were just darn good hash browns, and the pancakes were light and fluffy. I didn't notice that Gus's Diner with more expensive than other breakfast places, especially since the food is as good as it is, and the people are very nice. I'm looking forward to my next trip here.
(5)Gregory B.
The love of my life really likes this place. So does my son. I think the hash browns were uniquely wonderful. The omelette was just ok. Really did not like the pancakes at all. Heavy, doughy, chewy and a little undercooked. No flavor. Lovely service.
(3)Dan D.
Another great breakfast at Gus' Diner. Good food, and great people!
(4)Kat Q.
Clean restaurant, we were sat quickly on a Sunday morning. Ordered hash and eggs. The eggs were cooked properly. The hash was of the canned variety and not cooked crispy on the outside. The reason for two stars you ask? The coffee. I judge a breakfast restaurant that feels comfortable charging $10. To $12 per person for breakfast by their coffee. They should serve and brew an excellent cup of rich coffee. Gus's coffee had a burnt flavor and was weak.
(2)Leslie S.
bee there a few times- my husband went crazy or the skirt steak- owner is on premises and very personable- waitress looked a little miserable but the food was excellent

My daughter and I were in town for a volleyball tournament. Decided to try a local place and saw the good reviews on YELP. It was crowded but we were seated immediately. We told the server we were from out of town and asked what she recommended. She called for the owner and Gus came over and introduced himself. He recommended one of the skillets (I got the lumberjack skillet) and my daughter got the southern Benedict. Everything we got was excellent and we will definitely be back next time we are in town.
(5)Ron K.
This place is AWESOME !! Great food, great service. Fair prices. I can see car and bike shows here
(5)John C.
Spent last weekend in Chicago with my wife for our anniversary and decided to skip the hotel's breakfast and venture out in search of a local diner and found Gus' Diner nearby. We were met by Gus himself when we entered and immediately felt right at home when Gus told us he wasn't 100% awake after surviving christmas! Very nice place with extremely friendly owner and staff and excellent breakfast. We wouldn't hesitate in eating here again when we return to the area.
(4)Katie K.
Solid breakfast joint. The decor and theme of the restaurant is fun. The food was good, a little greasy, but what you would expect. I thought the prices were slightly steep. Good service.
(4)Cindy B.
I look forward to coming here on the weekends. I love they have grits on their menu and their omelets are made perfectly. Gus the owner is so friendly and the entire staff makes you feel very welcome and not rushed. I also love the 50s décor. It could be a little warmer in there for me so if you get cold easy, I would bring a sweater.
(5)Debi H.
Great sixties diner with even better food! Friendly waitstaff. Recently featured on Check Please!

I love diners! One of my favorite Sunday morning spots is a divey diner that oozes with charm. We should have gone there. Gus' Diner is conveniently located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. My husband joked as we walked up about the folding chairs and tables. I saw the retro booths and figured that they must be so good that they've thrown in some additional seating to accommodate more guests. We walked in to an upbeat, clean restaurant loaded with people. Gus himself seats us in one of those red totally retro booths and we are off on our adventure. We wait a few minutes and a waitress comes over to collect her tip from the last guests. She informs us that they are switching sections and that our waitress will be over momentarily. She proceeds to count her tip in front of us, tell us that this is her favorite part and walks away. Odd. Later during our visit, I heard her telling another guest that it's been a great week and now she can afford to make multiple car payments. I was so put off. We meet our server a couple minutes later and order a soda and a cup of coffee. The server offers to refill my soda at the end of the meal and never tends to my husband's coffee. She didn't fill the cup once even though it sat empty on the edge of the table every time she walked on by. When he was halfway done with breakfast, we got a busboy to fill the coffee cup and bring over some creamer. He chose a Denver omelet with hash browns. It also came with pancakes or toast. He chose the pancakes. I went with a French dip, fries and the cream of chicken and rice soup. My soup took forever to come out. The server did apologize for the delay when she delivered it. It had a layer of thick film on part of it. I scooped that off and ate a few bites. It wasn't piping hot (chilly soup is a pet peeve) and it wasn't very tasty. That sat at the edge of the table until after we left. The omelet arrived and it must have been okay because he ate half, but his hash browns were a little too blackened for my liking. My French dip arrived with a pickle that I requested not to have on my plate (I don't like pickle juice making the bun soggy). The check did clearly say 'NO PICKLE' but no one bothered to read that detail. My fries were lukewarm and not evenly cooked. Some were burnt and some were almost raw. None were seasoned. The sandwich itself came on a nice roll, but the meat was not only very minimal but also gristly and overcooked in some areas. Of course, we found that the coffee spoon was dirty with a chunk of something on it toward the end of the meal which promptly brought our meal to a close. So for $26 and change with our tip, it was a very disappointing trip. The look of the diner was very cute. I love the paint colors, the wall decor and the booths. The counters with stools looked cute as well. You can tell that some good money went into making this diner a cute spot. But, I think that some re-training with the primary focus on attention to detail is in order here. I just don't think that we'll be back to check it out again.
(2)Gordon G.
A very friendly diner with delicious food. By far the best diner/breakfast restaurant in the area. Having courteous staff and an owner who actually appreciates your patronage is a huge plus. I'm done with places like Apple House and Palatine Inn where you are made to feel like they are doing you a favor by taking your money. Crinkle cut fries rule!!! Get the corned beef and swiss for lunch, it's pure awesomeness.
(5)Megan K.
What a great place. Good food, friendly and fast service, and the atmosphere is fantastic. Had the Country Fried Steak. Yummmmmo
(5)Gerry A.
There is room for Red Apple and Gus's Diner kind of across the street from each other in Palatine & Rolling Meadows. Gus's is a very well lit, shiny 50's diner motif with very low curb appeal in a strip mall on Plum Grove Road. We prefer Red Apples baked omelettes over Gus's tasty layered crepe omelettes but both are good. Both have excellent skillets, pancakes, and adult experienced servers. Gus's also has a very handy bar counter for when you are traveling without your entourage, and longer hours. The counter can be pretty fun, they make you feel like you DO have an entourage there. Maybe I could eat one of Red Apple's fantastic baked omelettes AT Gus's the next dark Winter day? We prefer the brighter lighting and initially funner aspect of Gus's but have also gotten to know, and really like, the owners at Red Apple that has become our regular late brunch spot.
(3)Jon L.
Food was decent but overpriced. Service was lacking. They seemed more interested in watching TV.
(2)Katie S.
Everyone was so friendly. I immediately felt comfortable and welcomed with open arms. The food was delicious, it's a perfect place for people who enjoy breakfast dine ins.
(5)Grace K.
I absolutely love it here! My friend and I have gone multiple times before school and every time we love our food. There is a great vibe and everyone is very friendly. I would absolutely recommend the lumberjack skillet and the banana bread French toast, both amazing!
(5)Daniel M.
Love this place! My wife and I come here all the time for breakfast. Great atmosphere, friendly wait staff and Gus is always fun to talk to. Food is consistently good. Definitely worth a try!
(5)Frederick T.
Very good breakfast place. Been there quite a few times now. The omelettes and pancakes are delicious.
(5)A A.
I wish I could give this place 6 stars. If I could, I would. Everybody is so nice and friendly. The owner Gus has a great personality that makes you want to keep coming here time after time. The food is really good. If I lived closer, I would be here more often. Great job to Gus and his staff. I would highly recommend going to Gus's diner!!!!
(5)Wall Eye D.
Best breakfast diner I have ever been to! I stopped in one day while working on a home in town and now I drive all the way out from the city as often as possible. Best pancakes in the world! (... And I don't even like pancakes)
(5)Sarah S.
I love Gus's Diner. Their slogan is 'Come as Strangers, Leave as Friends.' It's a bit dangerous having such a cute diner right across from home but somehow I will have to resist going here for breakfast every single morning! On my latest visit I had the Florence Benedict for $8.95 which is a toasted English muffin topped with Canadian Bacon, Baby Spinach, two poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. I absolutely loved this dish - everything went so well together. The eggs were cooked perfectly, sauce delicious, and the spinach was super fresh, cooked to just the right degree. Plus it comes with hashbrowns on the side which were perfect when they had the hollandaise all soaked in! I've had pancakes here, as well, and found them to be perfect also! Their skillets sound sooooo good - they're next on my to do list here. Gus's is open from 7 to 2 every day, they do take out and have a pretty huge menu with an array of choices to dine on. Service is better than average diner treatment with the staff all being very attentive and friendly. Gus himself with awesome sleeve tattoos is usually in the cash register (I know this because I matched his pic from a charity photo next to the register to his live & in person face). Gus's is decorated with rock & roll memorabilia and bright colors adorning the walls. Tons of tables or you can take a old school seat at the counter to dine. Love it! I need to go with someone's child so I can see what exactly their Mickey Mouse pancakes on the Gus' Gang Kids Menu entails! :)
(5)Cindy E.
I LOVE GUS' DINER! My boyfriend and I stopped in here several months ago now, though I'm sad that I've wait so many years to experience the awesomeness that this place has to offer. It's 50's style decor gives it so much charm, and the staff is simply the best! We are always welcomed with huge smiles and they pretty much treat us like family. The prices are very good, and the food is phenomenal. Gus makes the best soup I have ever had in my life, I am not joking. I am a total soup freak and even if I get breakfast food, my girls know to bring me soup! I have never had a meal I didn't like from Gus's . I have had both breakfast and lunch meals numerous times, I've probably tried over a dozen things and have never been disappointed. Everything from french toast, to their burgers (magnificent) to the paninis & the omelets, there is not one dish I wouldn't rave about to a friend. I have a hard time choosing when I go there, but I know whatever I choose, I am going to be a full and happy girl! If you are a breakfast lover, go for the pancakes. They are absolutely perfect! Simple, but amazing and super delicious! (Still not better than the soup though!) I always have a wonderful time when I go here and you feel right at home. They never rush you and are always happy to give you suggestions of great food to try, Gus is in house almost all the time, and that speaks to the pride he takes in his restaurant & the value he has for his customers. The whole staff is wonderful, and Liz & Debbie are so much fun! I affectionately refer to them as my " Gus's mommies" . If you are looking for a great local place to have a wonderful meal , surrounded by the sweetest people you'll ever meet, give Gus' a try. Keep in mind you only have between the hours of 7am-2pm each day to experience this magic, but I promise, once you've been there, you won't be able to stay away!
(5)Taylor D.
First time at Gus's and we were thoroughly impressed! Classic retro diner atmosphere and food (which is absolutely delicious)! Gus greeted us as soon as we walked in the door and our waitress was great! Looks like we just found our new breakfast spot!
(5)Lindsay V.
Love this place! We have been living down the street for the past three years and never tried it until recently. Food is always really good, coffee is great and what makes it all better is the owner/staff actually appricate your buisness. Love this place!
(5)Kevin C.
My wife and I have made this our go to breakfast place. You can't do any better, great service, great coffee, great food.
(5)David T.
A suggestion to Yelp, allow a 6 star review because Gus's would get it! Went here for the first time today and absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was perfect a 50's diner with 50's decor, exactly what a diner should be. The owner, Gus greeted us and sat us to our table. Our waitress was awesome, super friendly, knew her job very well gVe us the right amount of attention as well as enough privacy. They were not rushing us to get out so they could turn the table over, gave us all the time it he world. And last but not least the food was great. You can tell it is homemade. Long story short, the perfect diner experience. Highly recommended. Will probably make this a regular brunch place for us.
(5)Carlos F.
Great fresh decor with a clean and tidy setup. The menu is quite diverse and has plenty of choices for everybody. The prices are just right and their portion size is more than plentiful. I had the Athenian Hot Rod Skillet, which has onions feta cheese tomatoes eggs (I opted for fried hard) and potatoes with two more toasts (just on case your carb count is running low) . It was awesome!
(4)Tabitha A.
Cute little retro diner. Everyone is super friendly. Awesome brunch. Seriously that banana bread french toast, omg.But what really won me over is that they had a young special needs woman working, with assistance, at the diner. Clearing off tables and what not. As someone who has a special needs sibling this just melts my heart. This is what a sweet little diner should be! Good food, good people. I'll definitely be back! After all, I gotta try their lunch :-)
(4)Jamie K.
Great food and great service! My husband had a skillet and gobbled up the entire thing! I had french toast and a side of bacon, both of which were amazing. The owner stopped us as we were leaving to see how our meal was. He is very nice and personable. We will definitely be back and highly recommend Gus's Diner!
(5)t e.
I love Gus's! They have a great menu for vegetarians like myself and meat eaters [like everyone else I go with:)] They have a fantastic family environment and there is always lots of people gabbing and families gathered in huddles. Gus is usually strolling around chatting up the crowd with his smiley tattoo friendly presence. The food is always hot and the coffee is actually good! I highly recommend this place! Too bad its only open until 2 on the week days. I always hit up Gus's on the weekends if I'm at the laundromat or Jiffy Lube too. Better waiting room and yummy food - just a suggestion. YUM!
(4)Ashley T.
I've been coming here since I moved to Palatine a year ago. This is by far one of the best places for breakfast/brunch. The food is awesome (I always get a skillet because they are made perfectly here!) and the staff is always incredibly friendly. The atmosphere inside is like a typical neighborhood establishment where it almost seems as though everyone knows everyone. It's hard to find places like this!
(5)Fast Eddie F.
Gus is great, very nice staff, fresh hot food. All at a pretty good price point. The establishment is neat and clean and seems to work very well with moderately sized groups too. Consistently good.
(4)Drew C.
I was working at Renaissance for 2 weeks and I spent several mornings with Gus and his friendly ladies. I enjoyed every second spent with this family. Food was amazing Loved it... Drew from Texas
(5)Kara L.
So yummy!! Stopped in after a shopping excursion and the food was great!! The owner was amazing!! Definitely will be back next time we are in the area!!
(5)Emily W.
Delicious, abundant food.
(5)Debra P.
Ate breakfast at Gus's this weekend before golfing. Every worker in the place said "good morning" to us - so friendly! Service was courteous and fast and the food was great at a fair price! I recommend the lumber jack skillet - yummy corned beef hash with a couple fried eggs on top and lots of melted cheese. Didn't have to eat again til dinner!
(5)Steven L.
It's a reasonably priced local diner. The food is pretty good.
(3)Amelia I.
I've been eating here for a few years now. Just got around to reviewing them. Food is usually good for the price. Not too expensive. Some of the waitresses can get a little ditzy and forget to bring your drinks. Last time the girl asked if I'd even told her I wanted a diet coke? I'm like uhhhh yea? The chocolate chip pancakes my niece could have made better...but the skillets are really good. All around a good place if the wait at Red Apple is too long.
(4)Mico B.
I love this place. I've been looking for an old timey diner in the area, but only two or so out of the many that claim to be diners really had the right feel I was looking for. Super rad decor, lots of seating, good food, generous servings at a reasonable price, AND there's a counter. It's weird to think about how long the area has been developed, and how there's almost no establishments that have stood the test of time, especially knowing how many people have owned the properties in the area since their house was first built. I love old school Americana, and this place gives of just that same vibe. It's rare that you ever get greeted by the owner of a restaurant nowadays, but Gus himself seated us, he introduced himself, and we introduced ourselves, and he shook our hands, good handshake, good guy, great place. I had the breakfast burrito and a short stack, both of which were good. I'm not very picky about my flapjacks, they were tasty, but I wasn't about to write home about them. But I sure do love me a good breakfast burrito, and this place has it on point. the sauce on top is really good, but it made me eat the burrito with a knife and fork, so next time i'll just ask for it on the side. This spot is definitely worth trying again, and again, and again. And again.
(5)Dan S.
The first time I stopped by Gus's, it was just after they had moved to their current location. Nothing about it really stood out to me, so about a week ago I came in with a buddy to help cure my hangover from the night before & give Gus's another try. I ordered my standard 2 eggs, hash browns & toast. Not 1 single crumb remained when I was done & my hangover was manageable for the rest of the day. The price of my meal was comparable to my other go-to breakfast spots & quality was right up there too. Now that I have a good memory of the place, I will keep Gus's in mind when deciding on a place to have a good, quick & tasty breakfast.
(4)Jenny V.
i don't come to gus' that often, but when i do i get their athenian skilet, hashbrowns, onions tomatoes gyro meat and the kicker, FETA CHEESE. it's so good, i always forget how much i love feta until i have a dish that has feta in it.
(4)Rob W.
One of the most blah restaurants I've ever been to in my lifetime. Sure the atmosphere of 50's diner is kitschy, but beyond that, nothing special. Food was fair and service was kind of slow. And I was sitting alone at the counter, not hard to serve there. A hodge-podge of stuff in the coolers behind the counter made me wonder if staff even knew some food was there - and if they didn't, who knows how old it might be by the time it is served to customers. Mediocre at best. No reason to return.
(2)Dennis J.
This is a standard diner and with standard diner prices. There was nothing exceptional or disappointing during our visit; though, it did take a really long time to get our check even though there only a handful of people in the restaurant. If the kitschy, "old school" feel does something for you, feel free to add another star to my review.
(3)William I.
Good and staff are always top shelf. Gus makes you feel welcome. Atmosphere and price are great! Love this place!
(5)Ellen L.
went here for breakfast this am. my hubby and i tend to split a meal. not a problem here, which is not the case in every restaurant. VERY friendly place. service is great and the food is even better. Had french toast and ham off the bone. Delicious!! Only reason not giving 5 stars is sewer smell in back of restaurant by bathroom. Otherwise, best place ever. Will be back. Just will not drink so much of the tasty coffee.
(4)Richard N.
Simply put, good coffee and good breakfast and lunch selections. Big portions that are priced right. My new go to neighborhood place!
(4)Nick L.
This place rates a C- for me. The decor was set 50's style and to me, if you have a theme it's to try and distract from sub-par service, sub-par food or both. The service wasn't bad, but it was slow. It was only half packed on a Saturday at 11am. When I go out for breakfast somewhere new I order the same thing, 2 eggs over medium (that means runny yolks not whites) hash browns, bacon, rye toast buttered and coffee. The coffee was crap, it was brown water: fail. You would need to drink 15 cups to match a normal cup of coffee. Fortunately when we said something they decided not to charge us. The eggs had runny whites: fail. Only 3 thin strips of bacon: fail. Large pieces of rye bread: pass. Hash browns: bland. This is only a place to come if you like the kitch of 50's era. As for me, I'll stick to TNT up the road.
(2)D. V.
Great homemade cream of mushroom soup !! The staff is so friendly!!
(3)Mike O.
I've lived in the neighborhood for a couple of years and today was my first time at Gus's. What the hell was I waiting for??? It' an old school diner in a new space. The waitstaff was friendly and the food was very good and satisfying. They have your typical diner food, lots of choices for breakfast or lunch. No dinner hours! It's definitely a perfect place to eat if you're looking for the perfect hangover cure! You can't go wrong...
(4)Vince L.
Good food and very reasonably priced I have been here a few times. The owner is very nice and asks every customer(or table) how everything. The place has a cool 1950's hot rod dinner vibe. Everything i have ever had here has been exceptional. Get the Belgium waffle it is epic.
(4)Mike K.
Another great Yelp find while traveling. excellent food and service. Very friendly and fast. Bacon & eggs with whole wheat toast & coffee. was $4.99. I was surprised to see the Tax charge. almost 11% with the added Rolling Meadow 3% add on. Went a second time. Hash & eggs with a side of pancakes & coffee came out to over $12.00 but everything was done right.
(5)Steve R.
I wrote in an earlier review that Gus' Diner was closed. They have reopened according to their Facebook page. Unless their hours changed, I don't like that they are not open for dinner. I hope it is due to a lack of employees and time rather than a lack of business.
(4)Sherwin C.
An alright restaurant. It's fairly average in all aspects - food, service, decor, and price. It's alright to go to if you're passing by the area since it has a pretty complete menu and fairly long hours.
(3)Kim M.
This is a real authentic greasy spoon of a place. It's affordable. The food is consistently good. We went for breakfast. The owner was working the register and was super nice! Would like to come back for lunch to see how that is. All in all, a great greasy spoon with appropriate greasy spoon atmosphere.
(4)Mark H.
This is a great place for any time of the day. The food is very good and the service is always very polite. The owner is almost always there and is just a great guy. And to boot the prices are pretty good too.
(5)Ryan K.
When you see the word "Diner", you should not be expecting anything fancy in the way of decor. Diner's are basic food service experiences and in my opinion Gus is top notch in the Diner business and I have been to ALOT of diners all over the country. I was introduced to this place by friends about three weeks ago and they have been coming for 15 years??? The food is simple and good. If you want fancy food or cushioned seats go to Walker Brothers, wait in line for an hour and overpay for your food. And don't be stupid and ask for 4 separate tabs or make stupid jokes about the furniture cause you underdressed for fall weather in Chicago. Get one check and figure it out amongst yourselves or go eat lunch alone. People who do that really irritate me. Oh and Our waitress was great and I will certainly be back.
(4)Melissa H.
So Dad, my son and I went last night because I had a Resturant.com coupon. for $25.00 when I spend $35 which includes 18% gratuity. I had the bacon and onion skillet with pancakes. YUM My son had the Mickey Mouse pancakes and chocolate milk. My Dad had chicken parm. I think I would probably return but only for breakfast. The big GUS tattooed guy is hilarious and very friendly. Our server wasn't very attentive however, no refills on my pop and had to ask for boxes and our check. It's been in the strip mall for 2 years and only noticed it recently!
(4)Loryn R.
I can't speak highly enough about this diner. I absolutely love it! The food is impeccable and the staff makes you feel at home. They have the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had, better than anything I've eaten in the south. Skillets are amazing and the eggs Benedict was just so flavorful. It's a place where everyone seems to know each other and they treat you like a friend.
(5)Michael R.
Great neighborhood diner. Friendly service and solid diner food. I love their corned beef hash. Get it with two eggs sunny-side up, smash it all together and throw it on some wheat toast. Joy. Hash browns are always perfect.
(4)Ryan M.
Ahhhh Gus's... Everything in this place screams 50's. They have the checkered floor, the glittery booths, even fake jukeboxes that hold the straws, salt and pepper, and other condiments at the table. The atmosphere alone makes you feel warm and cozy. We come here for breakfast mostly. The butcher block omelet is AMAZING! They also have very good skillets and pancakes. There breakfast is very comparable to Plaza Lane (the owners previous restaurant). I was very happy that the food didn't change when the owner moved to this new restaurant. I have come here once for breakfast. I got the corned beef crescent the sandwich was good but it was quite plain, it was missing a dipping sauce or topping. The lunch came with a salad or soup I choose the cream of corn. This soup was very good. I am always pleased with Gus's, I would suggest coming here for breakfast because that is where the better food is.
(4)Georgene M.
I really like this place! Great service and fun atmosphere and really great prices compared to other breakfast restaurants! The food is delicious and came out very promptly!
(5)Kim R.
Awesome place we tried with a restaurant.com gift card. Greeted on our first visit by the owner who asked our names and makes an effort to know his customers. Soup is served with sandwiches and dinners and they are all homemade by Gus' dad daily and it is some of the most delicious soup I have ever had. Also I think his mom runs the register so this is truly a family place In addition to the great soups and sandwiches I was really surpassed at the BBQ ribs. Really the most tender meaty ribs I have ever had Also a great place for tasty breakfast. Has cute 50's diner atmosphere. Oh, and when we used our first restaurant.com gift card, Gus asked us to do the survey that is emailed after and sent us a $10 gift card for giving him feedback.

We came here for the first ime though lived in the area for a long time. Purchased a restaurant.com gift certificate. The place is decked out in 50's motif with red booths, checkered floors, two counters with swivel stools and aqua marine walls. Service was fabulous, food was excellent. Definitely will come back!

Finally came back here for something other than dinner. A good thing, too, since they have recently changed hours so that they close at 2PM every day. This time we tried Breakfast items. A bit of a disappointment in one case. The "Florentine Benedict" was a real success - the hollandaise sauce was a fine tasting example - smooth and a bit lemony, and the eggs and the rest were nearly perfect. The "Greek Skillet" was a bit less so. The Gyros meat in it was dry and very sparse. The rest of the dish was pretty good. The pancakes that come with it were first rate. Service, as always, was classic diner - friendly and personal.

Ok, this is the home cooked dinner experience. They have a healthy menu along with the traditional burgers, fries regiment. We stumbled on Gus's when out on our lunch break. Gus, the owner is a great host and all the staff there make you feel welcome -hun! (What can I get ya?)

Do you hanker (yes, I said hanker in the first three words of my review ... but hang on, it only gets better from here!) ... do you hanker for down home biscuits and gravy? Salivate at the thought of oh - so - crispy bacon? Melt at eggs done just right, waffles with a sprinkling of sugar you can smell from the street ... and that's just breakfast!! The burgers are fresh off the grill, grilled chicken sandwiches that are moist and tender and a waitstaff that can't wait to take your order, pour you a drink, and bring you the extra side items you ordered - plus the ones you forgot! Gus's has been in business for 10 months but it wasn't until my husband and I wandered by a week and a half ago on a 15 mile training walk for the breast cancer 3 day (shameless plug - I need donations - want to know how to donate? PM me - thanks!!). Suddenly the air filled with the smell of ... was that bacon? Only at mile 5, or was that six, we finished a circuit and turned to head back home. Now at mile 7 we smelled it again. Bacon. For sure. We followed our noses and found Gus's. Not only is the food amazing, and the service spectacular, but Gus - progeny of restaurant folks himself - is a gem. Make sure to stop by if you're in the area. You won't be disappointed!!

Gus's is good food, for a decent price. My favorite is the homemade Spanokopita also known as Spinach Pie, its to die for. Its Gus's moms recipe right from Greece, it does not get better than that. Also my favorite two servers are there Debbie and Liz, not to mention if Gus is around he always makes sure to stop by my table and chit chat with me for a few. The place is like going to eat with old friends. I would check it out, if you have not already!

Food was good but nothing over the top amazing. Loved my waitress and looks like they get tons of regulars. I just might be one too :)

10am on a Sunday. About half full upon arrival; a decent line waiting to be seated when we left. We were greeted promptly at the door and seated at the counter. The waitress appeared quickly and asked for our drink order (two coffees.) Water was provided without asking. Waitress came back for our order. Meals came within a reasonable time and were cooked properly. Pancakes were a little delayed, but it seemed everyone was ordering them and they were FABULOUS tasting. Everyone was waiting for pancakes. My only complaint is that we had to ask for coffee refills even though the waitress walked right past us to fill the coffee for the table next to us. Gus the owner (big guy usually at the end of the counter) talks to people and makes sure customers are happy.

From the moment you walk in, the to moment you leave, this place is an AWESOME experience. I almost didn't want to yelp it because I don't want to keep it all to myself. Breakfast is just as good as dinner!

Great family atmosphere. Awesome for breakfast and affordable. Chicken sandwiches aren't my fave, but you cannot go wrong for breakfast. And the staff? Super friendly

Gus's Diner is a GREAT place to eat ! It has a small town, kind friendly atmosphere and great food at a really fair price. Gus seems to always be around to greet his customers w/ a smile on his face. Last Easter he was seen dressed as a Bunny. Sight to see !!

I found Gus's Diner on my quest for the perfect Tuna Melt, but I've been back a few times after that for awesome milk shakes and an overall satisfying diner menu. The pseudo 50's diner look could use some work, but it's still a fun place and they have good food for sure. Wait staff is friendly and there always seem to be regulars hanging out every time I come in.

Gus' totally rules! The staff treats you like family and delivers exceptional service every time. The decor is cute. The food is great and reasonably priced. Best diner I have ever been to.

We have been going to Gus's for Breakfast. for over two years. It is always busy on Weekend Mornings. The updates they have made in past few months have been nice. My husband usually makes it in for lunch once a week. He loves the Tuna Melt. The staff is friendly, and if you become a regular, You will find your favorite beverage arriving with the waitress on the first trip.

my wife and i decided to grab some lunch at Gus's Diner. we had a $10 restaurant.com certificate and decided to check out this local place. when we walked in, we loved the decor, definitely a throwback feel, with an updated item (i.e. flatscreen tv)! we were greeted and seated promptly with a bubbling hostess. onto the food. we wanted to try a burger and a skillet. a friend of ours said their breakfast skillets were good so we had to try one. 1. cream of chicken and rice soup - had to get a cup so that we hit the $20 limit for our certificate to kick in. was pretty decent, no frills. the soup came out hot which is always good on a cold day. 2. gypsy skillet - everything was great. potatoes were cooked with a nice balance of soft and crispy texture. there were ample amounts of onions, mushrooms, diced ham and cheese. it also came with a double stack of pancakes which my wife devoured. great dish, huge portions. 3. southwest bbq burger - loved the melted cheese and the grilled onions on the burger. the hamburger was nicely sized and cooked. the fries were ok - kind of tasted like ore ida. but i get it. it's a diner and you should not expect fresh homecut fries. the bbq sauce was ok - i think if there was a homemade bbq sauce, i think it would just send the burger over the top. again, i get it though, it's a diner. bonus - the service from our waitress was amazing. we told her that we wanted to try two dishes and were going to split them. next thing we knew, she brings out 4 dishes, all portioned into halves! now, that is unexpected service! our skillet and burger were all cut and split into halves so that my wife and i didn't have to swap plates in the middle of dining. mad props for that! love it when the service equals or surpasses expectations. bonus 2 - gus came around and greeted us. again, i nice added touch. even when i was paying he came and asked which of the 2 dishes i liked best. told him both. again, when the service and owner goes beyond the norm, you leave in good spirits. so, i recommend people in coming here. it seems kid friendly too so we will probably bring ours the next time we come. thanks for the great food and experience!

Gus' Diner is a famiy owned business which the family has been in the restaurant business for over 30 years. Mike K. that says that the family does not pay their cotractors is incorrect since I happen to be a member of the family. There are contractors that don't show up and take short cuts in doing their work, regardless of that the family still pays their debts. It is really tacky to use this site as a way of bashing people when contractors themselves are not always honest.

We used to frequent a joint over by Jewel in Rolling Meadows. They closed, we were sad. Tripped over this place, Gus' Diner and BOOM, it is the same guy....Gus! We are happy. Ate there tonight. Amazing Chicken Tenders, yes Chicken Tenders. Fresh crust, great meat comes with a sensational BBQ sauce. Fries? Terrific. Fresh, no breaded forzen coating here! I had a Julienne Salad. No brown wilted lettuce. FRESH, fresh, fresh and tasty. Wife had a skillet that she loved, daughter had an omelet which she devoured. SO, obviously family friendly. Staff is attentive and friendly. Gus is a great, on site host and the atmosphere is great and fun. Want a reliable dining experience? Great food, prices, service and flair? Gus's Diner. Patronize this place and make 'em rich! They deserve it.
